How to order

Why good carbohydrates are so important, especially when dieting.

We have carefully developed the GoodCarbs™ formula using scientifically researched ingredients. Here is some information about each ingredient and why they are included:

The major ingredients in our GoodCarbs™ formula are as follows:

* = certified organic ingredients

Activated pre-sprouted Barley

One of the main ingredients in our GoodCarbs formula is a revolutionary form of organically grown barley. It has a superb spectrum of nutrients and has a low glycemic value of just 24.

Just normal barley is a well known nutritional food which contains numerous enzymes, amino-acids, anti-oxidants, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals.

We have taken this a stage further.

natural organic barleyI don't know if you realise or not, but the most nutritionally active time for a plant is when it has just started germinating. Any seed has a built in supply of everything it needs to start growing. All that is needed is water and a good soil.

Once the seed starts to germinate and sprout a root and stem it is extremely active at a molecular level and releases numerous proteins, minerals, vitamins, enzymes and many other nutrients which science is only just beginning to understand.

The point is that this time in the seeds life is when it is most nourishing.

Tests have shown that the exact best time is just when the seed starts to germinate, just before it starts to sprout. At this point all of the seeds life-force is geared towards producing energy and releasing all of the nutrients it needs to enable a growth spurt to occur.

The science behind this is quite complex, but the simple truth is that this is the most nutrient rich time in the plants life cycle.

Using a specially patented process, we are now able to use pre-sprouted organic Barley. The result of this gentle process is what is called activated pre-sprouted barley.

This form of organic barley is a superb source of carbohydrates, as well as containing an amino acid profile very similar to the human body. This in conjunction with the thousands of enzymes built in means that the body can easily digest and absorb it.

Due to it's molecular structure, it is one of nature's best sources of complex carbohydrates. It has a wonderfully slow release rate which means that it gives out its energy slowly over a number of hours.

This combined with its low glycemic index rating means that it does not cause blood sugar level or insulin spikes. This means it is something that all dieter's, active people, athletes and diabetics can benefit from.

Quinoa

Quinoa is the seed of a leafy plant that is related spinach. However, many people regard it as a form of grain, in fact a "Super-grain".

quinoa growing high in the AndesQuinoa has an excellent carbohydrate and protein spectrum which complements Barley very well. The World Health Organization has rated the quality of protein in quinoa at least equivalent to that in milk, without the side-effects of milk.

Quinoa offers more iron than other grains and contains high levels of potassium and riboflavin, as well as other B vitamins: B6, niacin, and thiamin. It is also a good source of magnesium, zinc, copper, and manganese, and has some folate (folic acid).

Quinoa has a good amino acid profile, containing 18 individual compounds. It also contains many other vitamins and minerals including potassium (essential for good cellular health) and calcium (for strong bones and healthy joints). It also provides a natural source of fibre, essential in this modern age we live in.

Quinoa originates from various South American countries and can grow high in the Andes, free of pollution and in mineral rich soils. The quinoa grain is soft and creamy, and this produces a wonderful delicate taste which is delicious.

Phaseolamin 2250 phase 2 (phase ii)
- Kidney Bean Extract

Phaseolamin is an extract of the white kidney bean. It is a natural chemical compound which has been shown to effectively prevent the body from absorbing certain starches (types of carbohydrate).

kidney bean extractIt goes to work by inhibiting the digestive enzyme, alpha-amylase. By inhibiting the ability of this enzyme, you stop the starches from being converted into glucose (sugar). This means that the blood sugar levels are controlled better and there is less chance for them to flood your blood stream with insulin. This then means there is likely to be less unused sugar being converted into fat.

One of the major advantages of adding this to our formula is that because Good Carbs has a low glycemic value, the phaseolamin acts to produce a ceiling on the amount of starch absorbed.

Your body will absorb all of the glucose it needs to replenish its energy stores.

Phaseolamin has proven very popular with people undertaking a controlled or low carbohydrate diet. The combined effect of all of the good carbohydrates with the phaseolamin means that it should allow people to get the carbs the body needs without impacting negatively on their diets.

Phaseolamin 2250 (phase 2) is the first nutritional ingredient that has been clinically & scientifically proven to neutralize starch, found in certain foods such as potatoes, breads, pasta, corn and crackers. Phaseolamin is a safe yet powerful nutritional ingredient, clinically studied to reduce the absorption of starch calories with no side effects.

Chick pea

Chick peas are also known as garbanzo beans and they are considered to be one of the best low glycemic carbohydrate foods available.

chickpea picture They also contain an excellent amount of cholesterol-lowering fibre as well as a rich blend of enzymes, vitamins and minerals.

They also contain a useful amount of protein and are an excellent source of natural healthy fats and oils. They are one of natures best plant foods.

In combination with the other ingredients, the chick pea helps to ensure a smooth, gentle flow of insulin without the dramatic peaks and troughs caused by eating other less wholesome foods.

Chick peas are also an excellent source of the trace mineral, molybdenum, which is a vital component of a detoxifying enzyme called sulfite oxidase. This enzyme helps to remove unwanted chemicals called sulphites from your body.

Chick peas have also been shown to help maintain a healthy heart in various international studies.

All of these reasons make chick peas an excellent dietary supplement and this is why it is included within the GoodCarbs™ formula in such an easy to absorb way.

GoodCarbs™ also makes an excellent diet supplement for anyone suffering from diabetes 1, diabetes 2, insulin resistance or hypoglycemia.

Colostrum

Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals in the early days of feeding their young. This special milk is low in fat, and high in carbohydrates, protein, and antibodies to help keep their young healthy.

This applies to all mammals including humans! It is extremely easy to digest, and is therefore the perfect first food for all babies.

Colostrum has been added to the formula to help maintain a healthy immune system. People losing weight do upset their body's "normal" routine, even though losing weight will eventually lead to better health.

This is also one of the reasons you can feel a bit rundown when losing weight. By boosting the immune system one will not be affected quite so much.

The concentration of immune factors is much higher in colostrum than in mature milk. It actually works as a natural and 100% safe vaccine. It contains large quantities of an antibody called secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA) which is a new substance to the newborn.

Before babies are born, they receive the benefit of another antibody, called IgG, through the mother's placenta. IgG works through the baby's circulatory system, but IgA protects the baby in the places most likely to come under attack from germs, namely the mucous membranes in the throat, lungs, and intestines.

Colostrum contains high concentrations of protective white cells which can destroy disease-causing bacteria and viruses.

Studies have shown that the growth factors in Colostrum create many of the positive "side-effects" of a healthy organism - an enhanced ability to metabolize or "burn" fat, greater ease in building lean muscle mass, and enhanced rejuvenation of skin and muscle.

colostrum pictureThe colostrum we add to the product comes from one of the best sources available today - the healthy, pasture fed cows found in New Zealand.

Though bovine colostrum is relatively new in the west, actually it has been used for thousands of years in India. Ayurvedic physicians and other healers have documented the physical and spiritual health benefits from colostrum. Also, colostrum has been used regularly for hundreds of years in Scandinavia.

Clinical research has shown that a high percentage of the antibodies and immunoglobulins present in colostrum are believed not to be absorbed but remain in the intestinal tract, helping to fight off harmful infections. Colostrum helps inhibit the binding of pathogens to the bowel lining, so they are unable to proliferate.

Bovine (cow) colostrum is nearly identical to human colostrum and further research has confirmed that it is four times richer in immune factors than human colostrum.

Brown rice

Rice is a staple food in much of the world, and for good reason. Brown rice has an impressive variety of vitamins and minerals, including niacin, vitamin B6, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, vitamin E and bran.

brown riceThough brown rice contains only a small amount of protein, what it does contain is of a high quality as it is rich in the amino acid called lysine.

Brown rice contains four times the amount of insoluble fiber than that found in white rice.

Unfortunately, this important food source is usually eaten in most parts of the world in its least nourishing form - white rice.

White rice has been milled and polished to remove the bran and germ, which contain most of the valuable nutrients. The reason that white rice became popular is because Asian culture considered white rice to be a more affluent food and was more expensive because it was processed.

Also by processing it this way, the shelf life of the rice is increased even though the nutrients are dramatically reduced. So snobbery and greed, not common sense or health, are the reasons white rice became more popular.

The husk (brown part) of brown rice is the part that contains the nutrients necessary to digest and balance the carbohydrate content (the "white" part).

The following chart shows the nutritional differences between brown and white rice. As can be observed, fiber is dramatically lower in white rice, as are the oils, most of the B vitamins, and important minerals.

Psyllium husk - (pronounced "sill-e-um")

Psyllium husk comes from the crushed seeds of the Plantago Ovata plant. The husk of Psyllium is the actual coating of mucilage around the seed. Mucilage is a form of carbohydrate which is secreted by the seeds and feels a bit sticky when wet.

psylliumOne of the major health benefits of psyllium is its rich source of soluble pure dietary fiber.

Studies have shown that soluble fiber from psyllium seed husk when included as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease

Many people who diet, especially those following a low carb diet or one of the well known diets such as Atkins, South Beach or a High Protein diet, can get a little constipated at times.

This is because there is less roughage and fiber in the diet, especially soluble fiber such as that found in psyllium husk.

By including psyllium in the GoodCarbs™ formula you not only get the benefits of the natural enzymes but it will also help maintain a healthy bowel by helping to keep faeces hydrated and soft.

When trying to lose weight it is also important that you drink enough water each day and don’t go thirsty.

Psyllium can not only help regulate your system if you feel constipated, it could also help if ones bowel movements are too loose and almost diarrhea like.

If you don’t go to the bathroom regularly, harmful bacteria will grow on the slow moving faeces and will not be eliminated quickly enough.

If this is a concern to you or you simply want to cleanse out your system, we recommend you do a detox program, especially Detox 1 and Detox 2 - more details here.

When the colon is clean and healthy, it provides the body with proper support for a strong response against invading pathogens, bacteria and other toxins.

It is a strange fact that whilst dietary fiber speeds up the transit of food through the intestines, it also slows down the stomach's action of emptying food into the small intestine. This helps to regulate blood glucose increases and the fiber can also stimulate pancreatic enzyme secretion. These two attributes make dietary fiber a beneficial addition in the management of blood sugar levels and hence weight gain.

The part psyllium plays in the formula is important, even though it makes up less than 10% of the ingredients of GoodCarbs™. By combining psyllium with the rest of the ingredients in GoodCarbs™ you will enjoying this great tasting drink and reap the benefits.

Apple

Apples are an excellent all round food choice. They are:

  • fat free;
  • sodium free;
  • cholesterol free;
  • an excellent source of fiber.

apple pictureApples are a rich source of phytonutrient (plant-based) antioxidants and one of the best sources of the mineral boron, which may promote bone health. They also contain numerous other health giving chemicals, vitamins and minerals.

The old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” is fact, not just folklore. The nutritional gems in apples - fiber, flavonoids, and fructose form a great combination.

You will have read above about the benefits of natural fiber. The great things about apples is that they contain both insoluble and soluble fiber. This helps regulate cholesterol levels according to scientific studies and toxins can be more easily removed due to the effect on healthy bowels and intestines.

Flavonoids are chemicals which have been researched to help prevent heart disease.

Apples are a source of a potent flavonoid called quercitin. Quercitin’s benefits come from its antioxidant activity which help bolster the body’s immune defenses.

Apples get their natural sweetness almost entirely from fructose, which is a simple sugar. It is broken down slowly by the body and thus helps to keep blood sugar levels stable.

back to ingredient's index

Fructose

Fructose is a simple sugar found in many foods and one of the three most important blood sugars.

fruit and vegetablesFor example, fructose is found in honey, most fruits and berries as well as in some root vegetables such as beets, sweet potatoes, parsnips and onions.

Fructose is often recommended for people with diabetes or hypoglycemia. This is because it has a very low Glycemic Index of just 32. This low Glycemic Index rating is due to the unique and lengthy metabolic pathway of fructose. This slows down its absorption meaning less blood sugar peaks.

One of the reasons we have added a small amount of fructose to the formula is to help satisfy the craving one often has for something sweet, especially when on a diet. This is not to say the taste of GoodCarbs™ is sweet, it isn’t. It actually has a neutral taste. But the body will recognise this tiny sweetness factor and so some of its chemical triggers will be satisfied.

One of the reasons people often crave sugary snacks, chocolate or cakes is because their blood sugar levels are already out of control and the apparent “energy” from this sugar is what the body needs.

Actually what the body really needs is proper nutrients such as those found in GoodCarbs™. Many overweight people are actually deficient in nutrients, mainly because they eat poorly and this is a vicious circle as the person usually has to eat even more to try to rectify this nutrient deficiency.

We are confident that you will like the taste of GoodCarbs™ and find it satisfying both when taken as a snack replacement and also as an energy booster.
