1) Tips on creating a healthy lifestyle - Part 3

Being healthy allows you to get more out of life. To be healthy, it makes sense that you would try to follow a healthy lifestyle. It is not always easy to do this even with the best of intentions. Here are some more tips which you may find useful:

A) Breathe deeper

You have probably heard it said many times that taking deep breaths is a healthy thing to do. It is. However I want to go into the reasons for this in a little more detail and hopefully this will encourage you to spend at least a few minutes a day relaxing and breathing deeply.

Firstly, oxygen is vital to your health. Obviously, without oxygen you will suffocate within a few minutes. This is the obvious manifestation of not enough oxygen. But give a thought to what happens when you breathe and of how important oxygen is to you.

When you breathe the oxygen enters your lungs and here the oxygen passes into the blood stream. The blood stream then carries the oxygen all around the body and literally feeds every cell in your body with this oxygen.

The oxygen is needed by each cell during the many chemical reactions that take place including the absorption of food by each cell and the elimination of waste by each cell. Oxygen helps this to occur. Common sense tells us that the more oxygen you can get into the blood stream in the normal way the better.

The simplest way to do this is to learn to breathe deeper. You don't have to do this all of the time and become overly conscious about breathing deeper. Just do it a few times a day. Soon it will become natural and you will automatically do it more often. Most people breathe very shallowly and only use about a third of their lungs capacity.

Take a deep but gentle breath in through your nose and feel your lungs expand. Then gently let the breath out. Do this four or five times, one after another, and you will automatically feel more relaxed and refreshed.

Whenever you feel a bit stressed, fatigued or light headed you should try to sit down for a few minutes and do some gentle deep breathing. You will immediately feel a positive difference. Please don't underestimate the power of some deep breathing.

(As a side note, if you smoke I would strongly suggest that you try to stop. Smoking seriously clogs up many of the minute airways in the lungs and makes breathing more difficult and so less oxygen can enter your bloodstream, leading to many long term health complaints).

B) Get rid of stuff you don't need

Sometime in the past you have probably tidied up some area of your home and felt really good about it. You probably threw away some old stuff that you didn't need any more.

Quite frankly this is a very therapeutic thing to do. I encourage you to take a look around your home and see if there are any old things that you have been thinking of getting rid of but haven't yet done so. Perhaps your attic, garage or garden shed needs a sort out.

By making a conscious effort to go through your belongings and getting rid of stuff you are very likely to never use again, you will feel great at the end of it. Try to be as ruthless as you can. We have all got things hidden away that are kept because they will "come in handy one day". That days very rarely comes.

This advice applies to the belongings of all members of the family, including your children, spouse and your parents houses etc.

Following is an even more radical but similar idea that applies to people who are ill or get sick quite often. It is not easy to do for obvious reasons, but it may be necessary - (read on):

If you are surrounded by things or pictures of someone who has passed away and you constantly get upset when reminded of that person, then the most sensible thing to do might be to either get rid of those things or at least put them into storage. It is very difficult to get well and healthy if you feel painful emotions from those constant reminders of someone who was close to you.

Doing this doesn't mean you no longer care or you don't love them anymore, far from it. It simply means you need to do what's necessary to get well and live life today and into the future. Nor does it mean you have to forget about your loved ones. It is mentioned simply in case it is a possible factor and holding someone back from a full recovery towards health. There are many documented cases where this has occurred and when this harsh action has been followed, the person has made a full and much speedier recovery.

This applies not just to reminders of lost friends and family but also perhaps other things which are reminders of painful memories from the past, such as school, college, a job or anything else. These negative emotions which are brought to the surface by these constant reminders of the past often occur. If this applies to you then do what is necessary.

C) Have more conversations

Many of us don't get involved enough in what's going on around us. How often do you take the time and effort to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know or know very little. It is quite therapeutic to talk to people and also listen to what they have to say. Most of us need to spend more time, take more care and pay attention to the people around us. We need to show more interest in what other people are doing. Try to start up a conversation more often with people you don't know.

Take a few moments to pass the time of day with people. In this busy modern age so many people have lost the desire to hold a conversation. Life becomes far more interesting when you communicate with other people.

Try to listen to what people have to say. You will definitely start to feel more alive when you get more involved in life and with people around you. You only have to go on a train or a bus to quickly see how rarely people talk to each other these days. It doesn't have to be this way.

Find something that interests you about a person or what a person is doing and start a conversation for a minute or two. They may be shocked at first that someone wants to talk, or they themselves may not wish to talk. So what. At least you are trying to do something and who knows it may be the start of a wonderful conversation that you will never forget!

D) Cut down on the chemicals you use

It is wonderful to live in a clean house or apartment. It is great to have nice clean clothes and to shower or bath regularly.

However, the downside is that in this modern age most of use use far too many chemicals to achieve this. Numerous studies and tests have been done which prove that these chemicals can increase the chances of getting sick and unwell. Some studies even go so far as to suggest that many illnesses are worsened or even brought about by these chemicals.

It is a fact that we do live in a chemical age and it is not always easy to avoid using chemicals. However, I sincerely encourage you to cut down on the chemicals that you use.

There are now many, many natural alternatives such as chemical free washing up liquids, natural deodorants, natural shampoos etc. etc.

A friend of mine said she doesn't use the natural washing up liquid because there were fewer bubbles. When I tried to explain that it was the chemicals specifically added to her normal variety that created the bubbles she refused to listen. Years of television adverts had convinced her that it was the bubbles which got the dishes clean.

I gave up trying to convince her. I mention this just to highlight that we have all been bombarded with many false ideas regarding many of these highly chemical products. I suggest that you simply try out a few natural alternatives and see if you notice any difference. I might add that often you just know when something is the right thing to do even if there is no immediately noticeable difference. It could take weeks or even months before you notice the difference but I'm sure you will notice.

In particular try to avoid strong smelling soaps, shampoos, perfumes and washing up detergents. Why walk around breathing in all of these unnatural and potentially harmful chemicals all day?

I for one try not to use products with harmful chemicals in them. I am not too fanatical about this but I definitely make an effort. I hope you do the same, even if it's a small change to start with. It is definitely the healthier option. Why leave it to chance?

2) Parasites - "It was quite a shock when I found out."

You may be surprised when you find out that human parasites are very common. You may be familiar with parasite infections in animals such as cats and dogs and may even had your pets de-wormed from time to time. If you have, you may have seen first hand how disgusting and unhealthy it looks.

The truth of the matter is that humans carry far more parasites than most people realise. This can vary from place to place and from country to country. Many people assume that parasites only affect people in third world countries. Statistics suggest that many third world countries do have the highest incidence of parasitic infections but these things affect a large proportion of the "civilised" world.

Even though most of us enjoy better drinking water, personal hygiene and sanitation it is still a big problem. Many illnesses and sickness are caused or made worse by relatively common parasites. A new section has been created on our site which also contains links to numerous articles about parasite infections in people. Here is the page:

http://www.organicnutrition.co.uk/articles/parasite-cleanse.htm

This page gives you fuller details about the problem. There is also an additional page which is full of links to other sites on the internet. The address for that page is here:

http://www.organicnutrition.co.uk/articles/parasite-links.htm

Some symptoms of infection include stomach pains, indigestion discomfort, burning sensations, anal itching, bleeding from the bowels, cramps, diarrhea, bloating, very foul smelling excreta etc. Whilst these symptoms could be a sign of parasites, it may not be. One should investigate further and see if this is a possibility, it very well may be.

Parasites are not just limited to the digestive and intestinal tract. They can occur anywhere in the body, including the blood stream, lungs, liver, kidneys and brain etc. You may have them and feel few ill effects. On the other hand you may feel acute pain or simply feel lethargic and have no energy. The range of symptoms really are quite diverse. Once again, adopting a healthier lifestyle and doing regular programs to detox your system and also anti-parasite cleanses should be considered.

Quite often basic laboratory tests do not include checking for parasitic infection and even when found may not be thought significant if not deemed too severe. However, there could still be general feelings of lethargy and lack of energy if the infection is not too dramatic.

The thing to do is to read a bit more about the subject and you may be surprised at how widespread it is.

There are drugs that can be prescribed, but these can have some severe side effects. There are also well documented natural remedies which include Black-Walnut, Clove and Wormwood amongst others. Click the following link to be taken to a summary of information:

3) Killer flu and colds - Boost your immune system!

Well once again it's that time of year when people can be more susceptable to colds and flu. Just recently in the news was an article about the latest killer flu about to invade our shores. It's almost comical the way these things get described apart from the fact that they can be deadly serious.

One of the things I've come to learn is that these kinds of things rarely affect people whose immune systems are in good shape and who adopt a healthy lifestyle. Of course there is always the chance but the point is that if your body is healthy and in good shape then attacks of this nature can more easily be fought off.

You may have guessed by now but I am not a big fan of getting things like flu shots or taking drugs to suppress the symptoms of an attack. The danger with this approach is that your body's immune system is actually harmed and its effectiveness can be surpressed. Future attacks become harder to fight off. This is mainly because your body's immune system is being bypassed when you take drugs. Symptoms are hidden but the dangers remain.

The alternative approach is to adopt a healthier lifestyle. This includes everything we have been talking about in the recent newsletters, including, regular good sound sleep, good diet, exercise, less stress, less TV and bad news, less chemicals, more laughter, more conversations and all the other things we talked about as well as taking known herbs to help boost your immune system.

5) Nice News Flash!

I don't know about you but I get a bit fed up hearing bad news all the time. When I came across these two short news items which were positive, I thought it would be good to share them with you. Here they are:

GM Crops Proven to be Harmful
Recent GM crop trials in Britain have provided clear evidence that GM crops can damage the environment.

Field Scale Evaluations (FSE's) showed that GM crop technology was harmful and this harm had been downplayed by various Biotechnology Companies advocating GM food.

These studies, the largest of their type in the world, have shown that wildlife and plants have been severely affected. The aim of the trials was to see whether growing GM crops was better or worse for animals and wildlife. There was significantly less food available for wildlife in the GM areas and the wildlife suffered.

Whilst this is a great kick in the teeth against genetically modified foods being grown, constant vigilance is needed to ensure the truth isn't twisted by large multi-national companies and those politicians in their pockets.

Fast Food Companies told to clean-up
Some good news is that fast food companies and outlets must start taking some responsibility to clean up the rubbish left by their customers.

As well as encouraging the customers themselves to tidy up, they also must do the same. This will help improve the litter that is left lying around our streets. Here is the story as it appeared on the BBC:
